The Police in Busoga North have arrested 12 people for allegedly kidnapping an eight-year-old girl, Maimuna Namusobya.

Namusobya was reportedly kidnapped from her parent’s home in Nantamu village, in Bulanga town council, on 30th June.

Justine Namuwaya, the mother said that despite filing a missing person report at Bulanga police station on July 1st, 2023, Namuwaya alleges that the police response has been inadequate.

Busoga North Police Spokesperson, Michael Kasadha now says that they have arrested 12 suspects who are currently detained at Luuka central police station.

Kasadha said that detectives are recording statements from the suspects, whom he confirms to have been arrested from their hideouts in different parts of the country using GPS technology.

Kasadha further said that efforts to prosecute the suspects in the different courts are underway and they will be charged with kidnap and human trafficking.

He added that Namusobya’s whereabouts are not yet known, but they are following leads from the suspects.

The girl’s mother expressed suspicion towards her former neighbor, Asuman Batambuze, who abruptly relocated after a brief stay, coinciding with her daughter’s disappearance.

Despite her engagement with local leaders and subsequent police involvement, Batambuze was arrested but released without expedited investigation into his potential involvement.

Namuwaya claimed that Batambuze made ransom demands via phone in August, but police dismissed this evidence as manipulative. She explains that her attempts to provide audio recordings of negotiations were deemed inconsequential.
