Fifteen candidates were nominated to compete for the various Parliamentary positions on day one of the nomination exercise in Hoima district and city.

The candidates include Pius Wakabi, the incumbent MP for Bugahya county, who is also the NRM candidate. He was nominated alongside his rival Herbert Kefa Kato of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT).  

For the position of the Hoima woman MP seat, four candidates have been nominated.  

The nominees are Harriet Businge Mugenyi, the incumbent MP running as an independent, Beatrice Wembabazi, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, Suzan Asiimwe also running as an independent, and Vennah Mulindwa of the National Unity Platform (NUP).

Also in the race is David Karubanga, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Kigorobya County. He is running as an independent after he lost the NRM primaries to Gerald Kasigwa.

The nominations took place on Wednesday under the supervision of Hassan Takwana, the Hoima District Returning Officer.

Pius Wakabi, the Bugahya county MP, is back in the race to seek another mandate. He promises to fight land grabbers who have penetrated his constituency. He says, many people have been evicted from their land in is area, a thing he needs to seriously tackle next term.

In Hoima city, seven candidates were nominated to contest for the various parliamentary seats on day one of the exercise.

The nominees include Asinansi Nyakato, the incumbent city woman MP who was nominated on the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) Party, and Dr Patrick Mwesigwa Isingoma Obama, the incumbent MP for Hoima East division who was nominated as an independent candidate. Mwesigwa will again face Geofrey Beraheru of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) Party.

In Hoima West division, three candidates have been nominated to contest for the parliamentary seat.

The nominees include the incumbent Dr Joseph Ruyonga running as an independent candidate after he was defeated in the NRM Primaries, Ismail Kasule of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), and Ronald Kato Rwahwire of the National Unity Platform (NUP).

The nomination exercise in Hoima city was presided over by Atama Obra, the city returning officer, who equally said there were no anomalies on day one of the exercise.
