Police in Maracha district are investigating the murder of a 17 –year old girl by unknown people. The deceased has been identified as Gillian Amajoru, a resident of Kadamada village.
Her body with wounds on the head was discovered on Thursday near a disco hall at Muniaba trading center in Loinya Parish, Yivu sub-county.
It is alleged that Amajoru, a P.5 pupil of Loinya primary school in company of friends reportedly went for a disco at Muniaba trading center on Wednesday night and never returned home.
The West Nile Region Police Spokesperson, Josephine Angucia, says that the police have started investigations into the matter and no suspect has been arrested so far.
“A team of detectives led by the district police commander visited the scene and a postmortem was done at St Joseph’s hospital pending further inquiries”, she said.
Dicky Alema, the councilor representing Yivu sub county and also Maracha district secretary of social services has described the incident as unfortunate and challenged parents not to abandon their roles of providing guidance to their children.
According to police records, the incident brings to four the number of people murdered in the district in the past four weeks.
The latest incident happened on Monday January 8, 2024 , when Geofrey Nyakuta, a teacher of St Kizito Primary school in Olufe sub county in Maracha district was murdered and his body set on fire by his own relatives at Kijomoro village ,Pabura Parish , Nyadri sub county Maracha district over witchcraft allegations.
