Joint security forces in Kaabong district have apprehended 24 suspected Karamojong warriors believed to be involved in the raid on Komuria West Trading Center, resulting in the death of one person and the robbery of a local bar.

On January 4th, 2024, at approximately 9:00 PM, unidentified armed warriors began firing indiscriminately at people gathered at the trading center. Damian Okidi was killed on the spot, while two others sustained injuries. Additionally, the assailants stole an unspecified amount of money from a bar owned by Abraham Longoli.

Following this incident, the joint security forces engaged in persuasive measures to locate the suspects. On Sunday night, they successfully conducted cordon and search operations, leading to the arrest of 24 suspects in the areas of Lomorutea and Morulem in Kaabong West Sub County.

Michael Longole, the Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, stated that one of the suspects known as Nyoya was directly involved in the fatal shooting alongside three other warriors. Nyoya was apprehended along with eight men and sixteen women, believed to be his relatives.

Longole emphasized that the strategy of apprehending relatives of wanted suspects has been instrumental in recovering numerous illegal firearms in Kaabong district. This approach exerts pressure on suspects to surrender their weapons.

“The female suspects are detained at Kaabong Central Police Station, while the male suspects have been taken to the 45th battalion for further investigations,” Longole explained.
