Kinoni Church of Uganda (CoU) Primary School in Kakooge Sub-County, Nakasongola District is grappling with the aftermath of a recent rainstorm that wreaked havoc on its infrastructure. In early September, a severe downpour accompanied by strong winds swept through the school, causing extensive damage.

The initial impact of the storm was the complete removal of the roof from one of the classroom blocks. Additionally, the other three blocks, each consisting of two classrooms, sustained significant wall damage. Upon assessing the extent of the damage, Noah Mutebi Wanzala, the Nakasongola County Member of Parliament where the school is situated, urgently called for assistance from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) and the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness.

While awaiting the support, Wanzala, following the reopening of schools for the third term, took it upon himself to provide immediate relief. He donated 32 pieces of iron sheets to facilitate the re-roofing of the affected classroom block. In addition to offering practical assistance, MP Wanzala expressed his condolences to the teachers and parents affected by this calamity.

He emphasized the importance of support from all stakeholders and well-wishers, recognizing that the current efforts are insufficient, particularly with the upcoming Primary Leaving Examinations (P.L.E) for Primary Seven (P.7) candidates who require a conducive learning environment. Wanzala also disclosed that Nile Fiber Board Ltd, located in Kakooge, Nakasongola, has pledged support by contributing 25 iron sheets and providing labor for the reconstruction process.
