Robert Kwesiga, the Secretary General of the Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS), emphasized that as the organization celebrates 60 years of existence in Uganda, their focus is on enhancing their humanitarian efforts, not scaling back.
Since its formation in 1964, the URCS has been a leading humanitarian agency in Uganda, dedicated to saving lives, supporting communities, and promoting human dignity across the country.

Speaking to the media during a road activation campaign in Kampala on Monday, Kwesiga explained that their theme for the anniversary celebrations, “Humanity Needs You,” reflects the increasing complexity of their mandate to serve humanity and he stressed the importance of keeping humanity at the center of Ugandans’ daily lives.

“When we talk about serving humanity, it involves each one of us. In whatever way we engage, we can contribute to humanity, and this can be done in various forms,” Kwesiga stated.
“This year, we aim to remind the public that the Red Cross’s mission to serve humanity is a collective effort, not just the responsibility of external parties,” he added.
The “Humanity Needs You” campaign, set to run for six months, coincides with URCS’s 60th anniversary. The campaign aims to garner public support for URCS initiatives and raise funds for various programs and activities.

At the campaign launch at their headquarters last month, Kwesiga highlighted that the initiative would include several activities, such as recruiting new volunteers and members and encouraging people to become voluntary blood donors, among others.
