Uganda and Turkiye are bolstering their defence cooperation, with a focus on military equipment, training, and technology transfer.

This growing partnership was reaffirmed during the 4th Uganda-Turkiye Defence Industries Cooperation meeting, held at the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) headquarters in Kampala today.

Lt Gen James Mugira, Managing Director of NEC, emphasized the significance of the relationship, highlighting the agreement on defence industries cooperation signed in 2016.

“This Agreement was signed in the presence of our two Heads of State, demonstrating the importance of our cooperation,” he noted.

The Head of Delegation from Turkiye,Mr. Gökhan Uçar, Deputy Secretary of Secretariat of Defence Industries in Turkiye, expressed his country’s commitment to strengthening ties with Uganda.

“We believe Uganda is a key player in Africa, and we’re eager to share our expertise and collaborate on defence projects,” he said.

The meeting discussed potential areas of cooperation, including advanced technologies like biometric identification systems and smart physical projects.

Attendees included senior officers from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and delegates from the Turkiye Defence Industry Agency.
