The Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) has confirmed the death of Eng. Gershom Rwakasanga, Manager of Terminals Development & Operations at the Jinja Storage Terminal, following a tragic accident at Busowoko Falls.

Eng. Rwakasanga had gone missing on October 11, 2025, after reportedly falling into the River Nile while at the falls. Search and rescue operations, conducted by UNOC in collaboration with the police, emergency services, and the local community, recovered his body from the river.

In a statement, UNOC expressed profound sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

“Our collective thoughts and prayers are with all affected by this tragic loss,” the company said, adding that further details regarding arrangements would be communicated.

Busowoko Falls, known for its scenic beauty along the Nile, has strong currents and slippery rocks, highlighting the dangers associated with the area.

The tragic incident has left the UNOC community mourning the loss of a dedicated and respected colleague, while authorities continue to urge caution for visitors to the falls.
