The National Medical Stores (NMS) has dismissed allegations of impropriety following reports that one of its vehicles was impounded in Hoima City on Thursday after a box of medicines was found on board.

In a statement issued by NMS Principal Public Relations Officer, Sheilla Nduhukire, the government medical supplier explained that the impounded consignment was part of the day’s routine distribution and that the medicine box in question was an excess item meant to be returned to NMS stores.

“Preliminary findings from NMS indicate that the box in question was part of the day’s distribution consignment and was an excess that had to be brought back to NMS,” Nduhukire said, adding that such logistical discrepancies occasionally occur during offloading and verification exercises.

NMS further noted that it is cooperating fully with security agencies and has provided all relevant documentation to support the ongoing verification process.

The agency reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability in the distribution of government medicines, stressing that it maintains “zero tolerance for theft or misuse” of medical supplies.

Nduhukire encouraged the public and media to contact NMS directly for any further clarification on the matter.
