The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has won all municipal mayoral seats in Uganda’s Ankole Sub-Region in Tuesday’s elections. The region comprises four municipalities: Sheema, Ntungamo, Ibanda, and Bushenyi-Ishaka.

In Sheema Municipality, Pius Ahimbisibwe, the district returning officer, declared Lukia Nakalisa of the NRM, the only female mayoral winner in the region, victorious with 12,492 votes. She defeated incumbent mayor Moses Bishweko Basigaraho, an independent candidate, who garnered 9,099 votes, while Bravo Tumusongize, also an independent, polled 1,613 votes.

In Ntungamo Municipality, Charles Wafula, the district electoral area returning officer, announced Jacob Kafureka, popularly known as Jak Jex, as the winner.

Kafureka secured 3,320 votes, defeating Hakim Muheki Rwomushana, an independent candidate who received 1,010 votes, and Isa Kazimbaya, another independent, who garnered 791 votes.

Kafureka has served as mayor of Ntungamo Municipality since its inception in 2010. In Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality, incumbent mayor Richard Nestor Byaruhanga retained his seat with 6,892 votes, according to returning officer Annet Ashaba.

He defeated former mayor Jackson Kamugasha Bikatwoha, who received 2,076 votes. Other contenders included Johnbosco Tumusiime (57 votes, independent), Gustus Guma Gumisiriza (116 votes, PFF), and Deo Ayebazibwe (172 votes, NUP).

In Ibanda Municipality, Johnson Kanyomozi was declared the winner with 13,505 votes, narrowly defeating Deus Murinde, who polled 13,423 votes. Other candidates included Anselm Arinaitwe of the PFF (219 votes) and Gilbert Mukama Owatunga (153 votes).

. The results reflect both continuity and competitive races, with independent candidates trailing behind NRM nominees across the region.
