Edith Namande Nakayiza of the National Unity Platform (NUP) trailed with one (1) vote, according to the results, which were officially announced by Jennifer Kyobutungi, the Kampala District Returning Officer.
There is a heavy security deployment at Hoima Magistrates’ court ahead of the hearing of an election petition seeking a vote recount in the just concluded National Female Youth representative to Parliament.
Security personnel from the Uganda Police Force and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) were in and around the court before the process kicked off.
Dianah Kampe Ampaire of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party on February 11th, 2026, petitioned the Hoima Chief Magistrates’ Court seeking a recount of the votes.
She stated in the petition that there were irregularities in the tallying and counting of the votes and therefore wantsthe court to order a recount of the votes. The court set February 13, 2026, for hearing the election petition seeking the vote recount. The elections for the National female youth representative to Parliament were held on February 6th, 2026, at Hoima City station.
The Electoral Commission declared Mercy Kanyesigye the winner of the National Female Youth Parliamentary seat.
Kanyesigye, who contested on an independent ticket,t polled 216 votes, beating three other candidates in the hotly contested race.
Diana Kampe Ampaire of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party came second with 198 votes, while Julia Muhumuza (Independent) secured the third position with 24 votes.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, says the deployment is aimed at reinforcing security and preventing any disturbances during and after the court ruling.
He says they have received intelligence-led information that supporters of both parties could turn rowdy after the court ruling, hence deploying heavily.
Meanwhile, Kanyesigye, who was declared the winner of the National Female Youth MP in an interview with Uganda Radio Network while at Hoima magistrates’ court, says she is confident that justice will be on her side,e adding that she won genuinely.
She says she has all the evidence justifying why she won the hotly contested national female youth MP election.
