Police in Kibaale District have arrested the owners of Sky Bar in Karuguuza Town and several of their staff in connection with the murder of a 15-year-old girl. Tom Baguma and Emmanuel Ndorereire, along with several waitresses, were taken in after a sniffer dog traced a scent from the crime scene to the bar.

The arrests are part of ongoing investigations into the killing of Phiona Nakamate, a resident of Kigaaza Village, Kiribanga Parish, Bwamiramira Sub-county. Nakamate, daughter of Leonard Irumba (popularly known as Mazina), was allegedly killed on Saturday night in Buyanja Cell, Kamurasi Ward, Kibaale Town Council.

Her body was later found dumped in a bush along Kabuta Road near the Kibaale–Kakumiro Road. Martin Lukyamuzi, LC1 Chairperson of Buyanja Cell, said preliminary findings indicate the girl was assaulted before being killed. He urged parents to keep their children safe, especially at night.

District CID Officer Racheal Wakole confirmed that the girl’s body was taken to Kibaale Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination. She noted that excessive alcohol consumption, particularly during late hours, may have contributed to the circumstances surrounding the crime.

Meanwhile, Buyanja County MP and Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Matia Kasaija, condemned the murder, calling on police to expedite investigations and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
