Police in Kampala have identified the suspect in a deadly attack on children at a daycare centre in Ggaba as 39-year-old Christopher Okello Onyum, who is currently in custody.
According to police, at around 1100 am officers at Ggaba Police Station responded to a distress call reporting an individual allegedly attacking children at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program, a daycare centre located in Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala City.
Responding officers managed to arrest Okello at the scene.
Preliminary findings confirm the tragic loss of four minors during the incident.
The deceased have been identified as: Gideon Eteku, Kaise Alungat, Ignatius Sserwange and Ryan Odeke, all bellow five years. All victims were pupils of the same daycare facility.
The suspect is currently under interrogation as investigations continue to establish his motive, background, and any other relevant circumstances surrounding this heinous crime.
The Uganda Police Force has extended its deepest condolences to the affected families and assured the public that all efforts are underway to ensure a thorough investigation and justice for the victims.
