Two children have died in a road accident in Kitagwenda District after a truck they were travelling in overturned on Easter Sunday.

The victims, aged seven and thirteen, had reportedly boarded a lorry, registration number UBJ 466T, along with other children heading to Ntara Christian Primary School playground to watch a football match.

Their identities had not yet been confirmed by press time. According to Ruth Katarihwa, the Ntara Local Council One Chairperson, the accident occurred at around 3:00 p.m. when the driver attempted to make a sharp U-turn, causing the vehicle to overturn.

One of the children died instantly at the scene, while the other succumbed to injuries while being rushed to Ntara Health Centre IV.

The bodies were taken to Ntara Health Centre IV for postmortem as investigations into the crash continue.

Katarihwa condemned the incident, attributing it to reckless driving and the unsafe practice of transporting children on lorries. URN
