The new Dutch Ambassador to Uganda, Angèle Samura, has pledged to build on the longstanding partnership between Uganda and the Netherlands, with a particular focus on creating more opportunities for Ugandan agricultural entrepreneurs.

Samura made the remarks after receiving Don Wanyama and his team at the Dutch Embassy in Kampala, describing the engagement as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the media, farmers, businesses and technology players.

“A pleasure to welcome Don Wanyama and his team. Our longstanding partnership shows what can be achieved when media, farmers, businesses and technology come together,” Samura said.

She added that she looked forward to “building on this strong foundation and creating more opportunities for Uganda’s agri entrepreneurs.”

Samura assumed office as Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Uganda in August 2026, becoming the Netherlands’ new diplomatic representative at a time when Kampala–The Hague cooperation is increasingly centred on trade, investment and sustainable development.

The Netherlands identifies food and nutrition security as one of its priority areas in Uganda, supporting agricultural productivity, value addition, market access, agribusiness development, skills, financing and private-sector participation.

Under its 2026–2029 country strategy, the Netherlands says its relationship with Uganda is shifting further from a traditional aid model towards trade and investment, while maintaining cooperation in food security, private-sector development, water and other strategic areas.

The Dutch Embassy has also recently announced a planned five-year seed-sector development programme worth up to €10 million, targeting both smallholder farmers and the commercial sector.

Wanyama, who also reflected on the meeting, said he appreciated the Embassy’s support for agriculture projects and expressed optimism about working with the new ambassador to further strengthen the relationship.

The engagement comes as Uganda and the Netherlands continue to deepen cooperation aimed at connecting farmers and agribusinesses to technology, investment, markets and expertise, positioning agriculture as a key pillar of the bilateral relationship
