The newly elected Member of Parliament for Busongora South Constituency in Kasese District, David Mulindwa Simbwa, has expressed a strong commitment to promoting computer literacy among learners and youth across the district.
Mulindwa says many students’ in the constituency lack basic computer skills, which hinders their ability to compete effectively for jobs in today’s digital world.. The MP elect also wants to provide computer skilling centres for youth who have not had formal education, so they can also enter the digital world.
Thus on Monday, Mulindwa donated computers to Muhokya Community Secondary School, in Muhokya town council, and announced plans to support all secondary schools in the area to acquire computer equipment.
Mulindwa said the initiative aims to bridge the digital divide, empower students with esential technological skills, and open up more opportunities for the youth in the district. Mulindwa also called political rivals to drop their intentions to challenge his victory but rather come together and support him in community development.
Annest Masereka, the Muhokya Town Council speaker and the school head teacher Bwambale Buguma asked newly elected legislaters to prioritise betterment of education, through lobbying for improved computers and ICT labs. They also loby push government to take over the school. The Chairperson of the school board Brian Kyaligonza said many parents in the community are struggling to raise fees for their children and this adds to the high school drop toll in the area. He asked leaders to support needy but bright children with bursaries.
