A Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO) and a village Local Council I chairperson were killed on the spot in a hit-and-run road accident in Nakasongola District on Tuesday evening. Police identified the deceased as David Semanda, 35, a GISO attached to Lwanga Town Council, and Robert Mande, 60, the LC I chairperson of the same area.
According to the Savannah Region Police spokesperson, Sam Twiineamazima, the fatal crash occurred at about 7:30 p.m. in Molwe Village, Nakasongola Town, along the Nakasongola Army Barracks Road. In a police statement, Twiineamazima said the accident involved an unknown motor vehicle and a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UG 4879C.
Preliminary investigations indicate that both the motorcycle and the unidentified vehicle were travelling in the same direction from Nakasongola Town towards the Army Barracks, with the motorcycle ahead. He added that the motorcycle was hit from behind by the speeding vehicle, killing both the rider and the passenger instantly. Semanda was riding the motorcycle, while Mande was the passenger.
Police investigators visited and documented the scene, and the bodies of the deceased were taken to Nakasongola Health Centre IV mortuary pending post-mortem examination. The motorcycle was towed to Nakasongola Police Station and parked in the station yard pending inspection of vehicles (IOV).
The motor vehicle involved in the accident fled the scene and remains at large. Police have launched investigations to trace and apprehend the driver and appealed to the public to share any information that could help identify the suspect vehicle by contacting Nakasongola Police Station. Police also cautioned road users to observe speed limits and exercise extra vigilance, especially during night travel.
Fatal road crashes remain a major concern in Nakasongola District. On December 17, 2025, Uganda Radio Network (URN) reported that police in the Savannah Region—covering the districts of Luwero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola—had appealed to motorists to exercise extra caution during the festive season. The period, marked by Christmas celebrations, end-of-year activities and travel to usher in the New Year, is typically characterised by increased movement, heavy shopping and long-distance travel, especially as urban residents head to upcountry destinations.
This surge in traffic often results in congestion and an increased risk of road accidents.Twiineamazima said road users must adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent what he described as a recurring spike in accidents during the festive period. He warned that failure to observe traffic rules inevitably leads to tragic outcomes on the roads. He was commenting on another fatal road accident that occurred on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, along Wabigalo Road in Wabigalo, Nakasongola District.
The crash involved a silver Toyota Hilux, registration number LG 0072087, belonging to Nakasongola District Local Government. According to police, the vehicle was travelling from Nakasongola Town towards Wabigalo Trading Centre at high speed when the driver lost control while negotiating a corner. The vehicle veered off the road, rammed into a nearby building fence and overturned.
The driver, identified as Ivan Mwebaza, 32, a district employee, died on the spot. Another victim, identified only as Stella, 30, also died in the crash. Four other occupants sustained serious injuries. They were identified as Rogers Orech, 31; Joshua Mugabi, 31; Daphin, 24; and Faridah Mukanambala, 34.Police transported the bodies of the deceased to Nakasongola Health Centre IV mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while the injured were rushed to the same facility for medical treatment.
