Prof. Gudula Naiga Basaza, the Managing Director of Gudie Leisure Farm, has announced the upcoming Cereal Cottage Symposium, aimed at showcasing developments in the cereals value chain to industrial players and investors.
Scheduled for February 5, this event is a culmination of last year’s efforts and aims to guide industrial players on maximizing returns by fully exploiting the opportunities within the value chain.
During a press briefing at the farm premises on Wednesday, Prof. Gudula emphasized the significance of the symposium, stating that it will highlight opportunities, strategies for enhancing productivity, profitability, and competitiveness, as well as mechanisms to overcome threats to investments in the cereals industry.
Noting the emerging opportunities in the cereals value chain, not only in Uganda but across the region and continent, Prof. Gudula stressed the need for strategic dialogues to explore solutions and innovations, particularly for smallholder farmers, who play a crucial role in the sector.
“It is imperative that we continue to enlighten both existing and potential actors in this value chain, fostering strategic dialogues to map out key solutions and innovations for increasing returns, especially for smallholder farmers,” she explained.
Prof. Gudula acknowledged that more work needs to be done, particularly in building the capacity of small farmers, upon whom the private sector and the country’s fortunes depend. The symposium aims to open avenues for support and investments to catalyze the growth of the cereals value chain.
Established in 2009, Gudie Leisure Farm has been actively mobilizing, organizing, and building the capacity of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) to produce and deliver high-quality products and services. The farm boasts a network of over 145,000 youth agripreneur champions across Uganda.
The symposium will feature skills development sessions, business-to-business engagements, and a cereals industry expo, providing participants with the technical skills required for success in the evolving cereals market.
