There is heavy security in Pakwach Town Council ahead of Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine’s, visit to the area. Kyagulanyi, the National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, is on a campaign tour of West Nile.

His first rally is scheduled for this morning in Panyimur Town Council, Pakwach district, before moving to Pakwach town and later to Nebbi district in the afternoon. Reports from Pakwach indicate that, as early as 6:00 a.m., police, UPDF, and non-uniformed security personnel had deployed—both on foot and in vehicles—across all corners of Panyimur and Pakwach town, awaiting Kyagulanyi’s arrival.

Kyagulanyi is expected to step into Panyimur Town Council this morning as he begins his presidential campaign in the West Nile region. The deployment has reportedly created a tense atmosphere in Pakwach town, with some supporters anticipating potential chaotic scenes upon his arrival.

Josephine Angucia, the police spokesperson for West Nile, confirmed the deployment, adding that it is normal and intended to ensure law and order during Kyagulanyi’s campaign trail in Pakwach and the surrounding districts of West Nile.

Angucia further stated that a harmonization meeting was held with the NUP team to ensure a peaceful and secure campaign trail in the region. Similarly, Dominic Owinjiru, the Community Liaison Officer for Pakwach district, told URN that the deployment is for protection purposes.

Emmanuel Rwothongeo, the NUP Parliamentary Aspirant for Pakwach, said they are hopeful that security will adhere to the agreements stipulated in the joint harmonization meeting.

Francis Abiti, a youth activist in Pakwach town, said, “Bobi is not the problem; it’s the idlers and criminals in the town who take advantage of the crowds to rob. Let security isolate the criminals and stop their dirty plans.”

Robert Kyagulanyi’s campaign tour of West Nile follows that of President Yoweri Museveni of NRM a month ago, and Nathan Nandala Mafabi, whose tour concluded yesterday in Pakwach district.
