Over 300 residents of Greater Ngoma Nakaseke enthusiastically participated in a health camp held at Igomero Church of God.

Organized by the Greater Ngoma Development Foundation, the health camp addressed various health concerns including dental issues, eye problems, diabetes, hypertension, and offered HIV testing to community members.

Dr. Gilbert Tuhamire, the coordinator of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) medical team, highlighted the concerning rates of hypertension and diabetes among the attendees following thorough examinations. Some patients were provided with necessary medications.

Health experts have noted a global increase in non-communicable diseases over the past decade, particularly in low and middle-income countries like Uganda.

Dr. Gilbert emphasized the importance of dietary awareness, early disease screening, and regular exercise in maintaining good health.

“Early detection of diseases like diabetes, cancer, and high blood pressure can significantly reduce the risk of serious complications,” he stressed.

Prof. Wilbert Ahebwa, the chairman of the Greater Ngoma Development Foundation, reiterated the foundation’s commitment to addressing community issues and aligning with the national agenda of socio-economic transformation.

“We have set four main objectives including household-focused development, unity in diversity for socio-economic growth, lobbying and advocacy for improved service delivery, and promoting mindset change,” Prof. Ahebwa explained.

He credited the success of projects like the free health services to the community to the working groups within their foundation.

Prof. Ahebwa thanked district leaders for their support and encouraged more community members to join the foundation to collectively identify and address local challenges.

“We address pressing service delivery issues by engaging various government departments. Recently, our efforts led to the expansion of phone network coverage from 20% to 75% in response to our letter to the Uganda Communications Commission,” he added.

In honor of the birthday of their leader, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the team planted a tree as a symbol of their commitment to supporting him and working together for the betterment of their community.
