Water pipe

The Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Water and Environment, has launched the construction of the 47 billion shillings water project in Kabale and Rubanda districts.   

In Kabale the project is set be implemented as  Bugarama–Karweru Piped Water Supply and Sanitation System covering nine parishes and 117 villages across the sub-counties of Maziba, Buhara, and Kyanamira  in Ndorwa east county.In Rubanda district, the project is set to be implemented as the Rwere–Kateretere project in Rubanda east constituency.

Speaking at the launch on Thursday in Buhara sub county, Dr. Felix Twinomucunguzi, the Assistant Commissioner for Urban Water and Sewerage Services in the of the Ministry of Water and Environment says the project implemented under the Climate Smart Water and Sanitation Investment Project (CWIP) is aimed at expanding access to safe water and improved sanitation while reducing community vulnerability to climate change.

Twimomucunguzi says the contract has been awarded to M/S Vidas Engineering Services Company Limited under Contract No. MoWE/WRKS/2024-2025/00102 fully funded by the government of Uganda and will serve a design population of 43,164 people, providing a sustainable, reliable, and adequate supply of clean water to households and institutions in the area. 

The water system will use both pumping and gravity flow technologies.

Michael Muramira Kyakashari, Deputy Resident District Commissioner, commended the government for prioritizing water access, saying the project will stimulate development in the constituency.  

Kyakashari cautioned the public against vandalizing project materials for scrap, asserting that whoever is caught will face the wrath of the law. He asked residents to construct proper latrine facilities to reduce sanitation-related diseases such as diarrhea.
