Kampala Metropolitan Police, in collaboration with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and Crime Intelligence Units, conducted three intelligence-led operations across the Kampala Metropolitan Area on June 11 and 12, targeting criminal hotspots and drug abuse in Kira Division, Central Kampala, and Mukono District.

The operations resulted in the arrest of 99 suspects and the recovery of narcotic substances, including opium and marijuana.

In Kira Division, Wakiso District, a crackdown on June 11 in Najjera, Bulindo, and Shimon targeted ghettos known for harboring criminals involved in simple robberies and house break-ins.

Thirty suspects were arrested, and opium exhibits were seized. All are detained at Kira Police Station, awaiting screening and prosecution.

On the same day, a night operation in Central Kampala swept through William Street, Wilson Road, Nakasero, Old Taxi Park, and other areas, leading to the arrest of 60 male suspects.

The group, found loitering in black spots, was reportedly involved in phone and bag snatching while consuming narcotics. They are currently held at Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala for further processing.

In Mukono District’s Nama Sub-County, an early-morning raid on June 12 in Kiwala Village netted nine suspects linked to robbery and found with opium. Charged and detained at Mukono Police Station, they await court proceedings.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy PRO of Kampala Metropolitan Police, reaffirmed the force’s commitment to eliminating criminal elements through sustained intelligence-led and community-supported operations.

He urged the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police post.
