The Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement Party, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has appointed Lawyer John Musiime as the Chairperson of the Party’s Election Tribunal Chairperson.
The NRM Election Tribunal is a body charged with resolving disputes within the party majority of which arise with the election matters and other issues related to internal governance and decisions.
In a communication seen by Our Reporter, Museveni appointed Musiime on Thursday to head a team of 28 other experienced lawyers on Thursday as the party countrywide went to the polls to elect flag bearers for District woman MP and Constituency flag bearers.
Museveni, in a Statutory Instrument dated 11 February 2025, also appointed Musiime as the Assistant Secretary of the Judicial Tribunal of Inquiry into the Conduct of Supreme Court Justice Esther Kisaakye.
Speaking to our reporter, Musiime described the appointment by Museveni as a privilege.
“It is a most high Honour and privilege to be trusted by the National Chairman (HE, the President) and the Director Legal Services (Csl. Enoch Barata) with this task. I am fortunate to have been assigned to lead a team of some of the most eminent, experienced and ablest lawyers in Uganda. I am confident that heavy though it might be, we are well able to deliver on this task”, Musiime told Our Reporter.
Musiime will now be working together with the Directorate of Legal Services, headed by Lawyer Enoch Barata, to work on cases arising from today’s primaries.
On Wednesday, Barata gave a five-day deadline, including weekends from the date of announcing the winners, for those aggrieved to have filed their petitions with the Electoral Commission before the Tribunal handles them.
