Makerere University law lecturer, Mr. Robert Kirunda, has been appointed as a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), becoming only the second Ugandan to receive this prestigious appointment.

The PCA, headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands, is an intergovernmental organization established in 1899 to facilitate arbitration and other forms of dispute resolution between states.

Over the years, it has evolved into a modern, multi-faceted arbitral institution that addresses a wide range of disputes involving states, state entities, intergovernmental organizations, and private parties.

Mr. Kirunda’s appointment is seen as a significant recognition of both his individual expertise in law and Uganda’s growing contribution to international dispute resolution.

The PCA plays a vital role in promoting peaceful settlement of conflicts through arbitration, conciliation, and fact-finding. Its membership draws from some of the most distinguished legal minds across the world, entrusted with guiding sensitive and complex international disputes.
