Police in Nakasongola District have launched investigations into the murder of a 45-year-old man whose body was discovered near his home on Friday.
The deceased, identified as Sam Tashobya, a resident of Lwanjunji Village in Lwabyata Sub-County, was found by a herdsman approximately 100 meters from his house on the morning of November 21, 2025.
The herdsman notified Tashobya’s family, who had begun searching for him. The matter was reported to the police on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Region Police Spokesperson, said the police commenced an investigation upon receiving the report.
In a statement, he said police retrieved the body from the scene, located at the roadside, and conducted a thorough examination with the assistance of forensic and homicide teams, including a K9 unit. However, no substantial leads were recovered.
Twiineamazima noted that Tashobya had sustained multiple sharp-force injuries to the head. His personal items, including a walking stick and a cup, were found placed beside the body. The remains were transported to Nakasongola Health Center IV for a postmortem examination. Police have appealed to the public to provide any information that could aid their inquiries.
Tashobya’s killing comes just two weeks after a similar incident was reported in neighbouring Luwero District, where a 58-year-old man was hacked to death by unknown assailants.
According to a Uganda Radio Network (URN) report on November 9, 2025, Luwero police have been pursuing suspects linked to that earlier attack. The deceased, Eliab Makumbi, a resident of Kalagala Village in Kalagala Sub-County, was reportedly attacked after stepping out of his house to use a latrine located a few meters away.
When Makumbi failed to return, his family members grew suspicious and began searching for him. Their search ended in tragedy when they found his body near the latrine, lying in a coffee plantation with multiple deep cuts—clear signs of a violent assault.
According to Sam Twiineamazima, in a statement, he noted that they were working to establish the identity of the suspects and the motive behind this brutal killing.
These two murder cases add to the increasing concern of homicide cases in the Savannah region, which spans Luwero, Nakaseke, and Nakasongola Districts. Relatedly, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, URN reported that police had begun investigations into another suspected hacking incident involving an unidentified man.
That case was reported on Monday, November 3, 2025, around 3:00 p.m., after residents discovered a body in a swampy area within a eucalyptus forest in Kazinga Village, Kalule Parish, Nyimbwa Sub-County.
According to Twiineamazima, the victim was found lying face down in a stream—fully dressed but barefoot—with deep cuts on the head, eyes, and feet, as well as bruises on the neck and abdomen.
The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, and police recovered an assault stick from the scene as evidence. Earlier, in July 2025, URN also reported that police in Luwero had launched a manhunt for a suspect accused of murdering his 20-year-old wife, Edith Nabayego, in Namabale Village, Nyimbwa Sub-County.
The incident was described as yet another case of domestic violence affecting the Savannah Region. According to preliminary reports, Nabayego, a peasant farmer, was ambushed at night by her partner—identified only as Daudi—while returning home after shopping for her child. She sustained a deep cut on her arm and hid in nearby bushes until her mother found her hours later.
Nabayego later died at Nyimbwa Health Centre IV. Police suspected infidelity as a possible motive, though investigations were ongoing as Daudi remained at large.
