The highly anticipated City Tyres East Africa Badminton Challenge 2025 was officially launched today at Lugogo Indoor Stadium, marking the start of what is now the largest badminton tournament in East African history.
The opening ceremony was a spectacle of colour and excitement, featuring lively performances from young school teams and drawing an enthusiastic crowd of sports lovers, corporate partners, and media personalities.
The event was graced by representatives from Linglong Tyres Dealers, Supreme Dealers, ENOC 4T Dealers, and other dignitaries.
Running daily from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM until Saturday, the tournament will culminate in a grand closing ceremony on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. With more than 1,200 participants from across the region, the competition has set a new benchmark for badminton in East Africa.
Organised by Mandela Group under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, the tournament aims to promote sportsmanship, youth talent, and community engagement. The event is supported by Linglong Tires, ENOC, India Association Uganda, and UGASEWA.
Speaking at the launch, officials from Mandela Group expressed pride in hosting such a monumental event, noting that it not only boosts regional sports development but also strengthens cross-cultural ties.
“This tournament is more than just a competition — it’s a celebration of East African unity, passion, and excellence in sport,” said a representative from Mandela Group.
Fans are encouraged to turn up in large numbers throughout the week to cheer on the athletes as they showcase remarkable skill, dedication, and sportsmanship.
The City Tyres Badminton Challenge 2025 is expected to leave a lasting legacy, inspiring a new generation of players and reaffirming Uganda’s growing reputation as a hub for major sporting events in the region.
