State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Godfrey Kabbyanga Baluku, a prominent figure in the National Resistance Movement (NRM), has conceded defeat in the recent Bukonzo West primaries.

Speaking from a serene setting surrounded by bamboo, Kabbyanga addressed his supporters and the public, emphasizing the importance of rallying behind the NRM flag bearer to secure the constituency from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) dominance.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Dr. Crispus Kiyonga for winning the primaries of Bukonzo West versus USA,” Kabbyanga stated, acknowledging the victory of his opponent.

Despite the loss, he expressed gratitude to the large number of people who turned out to vote, highlighting their commitment to the democratic process. Kabbyanga’s concession speech was not just an acceptance of defeat but also a call to action.

“I would like to say that I concede defeat and I’m not going to come independent,” he clarified, dispelling rumors and affirming his commitment to the NRM.

He explained that his aim in the election was to recover Bukonzo County West from the FDC, a goal he believes Dr. Kiyonga is still capable of achieving. The veteran politician, known for his long-standing service and dedication to the NRM, urged his supporters to back the party’s flag bearer.

“Now, as NRM, we have a flag bearer. Please, let us all support that,” he appealed, underscoring the need for unity within the party to counter the opposition’s influence in the region.

Kabbyanga’s message was one of resilience and continued engagement in politics. “It is just the beginning. I’m still around, still in politics, and I will continue mobilizing for this party,” he assured, indicating his intention to remain active in the political arena and contribute to the NRM’s efforts.

The primaries in Bukonzo West have been closely watched, given the constituency’s history of shifting political allegiances. Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, a seasoned politician and former Chancellor of Makerere University, emerged victorious, setting the stage for a significant battle against the FDC in the upcoming general elections.

Kabbyanga’s concession has been praised by political analysts and party members alike for its maturity and focus on party unity. As the NRM prepares for the general elections, his call for support behind Chiyonga is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the party’s position in Bukonzo West.

The political landscape in Uganda continues to evolve, with figures like Kabbyanga playing a crucial role in shaping the narrative of unity and resilience within the NRM.

His concession speech, delivered with grace and a forward-looking perspective, serves as a reminder of the importance of collective effort in the face of electoral challenges.
