They also expressed gratitude for the Ugandan People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) role in maintaining peace and stability in Somalia since their initial deployment in 2007.

Ugandan troops have been part of the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia since 2007, working alongside forces from Burundi, Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Kenya to counter Al-Shabaab.

Gen. Kainerugaba thanked the chiefs for their courtesy call and wished them success in their efforts.

The meeting, held in Nairobi, was also attended by Uganda’s Chief of Intelligence and Security, Maj. Gen. James Birungi.
