Police in Luwero District are investigating yet another gruesome killing after a mother of three was stabbed to death on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Rose Nakamoga, 35, a resident of Wanunda Village in Butuntumula Sub-county, Luwero District.

According to Isaac Wampamba, the District Councillor for Butuntumula, Nakamoga was attacked by an unknown assailant at around 10:00 p.m.. She was reportedly stabbed multiple times in front of her children. Wampamba said Nakamoga managed to instruct her three children to flee to a neighbour’s home, sensing she wouldn’t survive.

Her eldest child, aged nine, briefly returned to check on her, only to find the assailant stabbing their mother. The child fled back to raise the alarm. Unfortunately, the neighbours were away at a music show and only learned of the murder around 12:30 a.m., upon returning home.

Wampamba added that Nakamoga’s husband, Joseph Nyombi, was away at his second wife’s home at the time of the attack, leaving her vulnerable. Police from Luwero Central Police Station arrived on Monday morning. A postmortem was conducted at the scene, and the family was cleared to proceed with burial arrangements. Nakamoga is set to be buried on Tuesday.

She leaves behind three children. Luwero District Police Commander, Brighton Ahimbisamukama, confirmed the murder and said investigations are ongoing. He noted that the motive behind the killing remains unclear, and detectives are recording statements from residents and the victim’s children. The incident adds to a string of recent murders in Luwero District.

In May, Sharon Nambera, 18, of Butanza Village, Katikamu Sub-county, was found murdered after being sent by her father, Jackson Kamulegeya, to buy cooking oil. Her body had bruises on her private parts, suggesting she may have been sexually assaulted before being killed. In April, Shaban Banduga, a resident of Kakinzi Trading Centre, was allegedly stabbed to death by Sumayiya Nayiga, who accused him of trying to assault her after she rejected his sexual advances.

In March, Godfrey Kamoga, 29, of Namawojja Village in Ziroobwe Sub-county, was killed by his wife, Shakira Mbabazi, over a domestic dispute. According to the Annual Crime Report, Luwero District recorded 86 homicide cases, ranking second nationwide. With the continued rise in killings, the district appears poised to retain its grim position in the 2025 crime rankings.
