Moyo police are investigating an armed robbery involving suspected South Sudanese men in Lefori Town Council, Moyo District. According to police, the incident occurred on November 1, 2025, at 8:06 p.m. in Maringu East Cell trading center. Collins Asea, the North West Nile region Police Spokesperson, said the unidentified armed men, wielding three rifles, are believed to have crossed into Uganda from South Sudan.
“The suspects fired gunshots, causing panic and prompting residents to flee. They then entered a shop and stole an undisclosed number of smartphones and an unspecified amount of money,” Asea said. Police visited the scene, recovered cartridges, and secured the area. No arrests have been made, and investigations continue.
Security forces are actively searching for the suspects, and the public has been urged to report any information related to the incident. Asea also noted that security along the Uganda–South Sudan border remains fragile, as armed dissidents frequently cross the porous border, sometimes traveling more than four kilometers into Uganda.
In a related development, communities in Madi Okollo and Terego districts participated in a joint Baraza at Ocea Zone, Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement, over the weekend. The dialogue focused on promoting justice and sustainable development through people-centered justice services.
Josephine Angucia, Police Spokesperson for West Nile, said the meeting was organized by a team from Police Headquarters, led by ACP Ignatius Otong and SSP Emily Angomoko, alongside the two DPCs of Madi Okollo and Terego districts.
Participants emphasized peaceful coexistence between refugees and host communities. Other attendees included Isaac Galiwango, Head of the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), the Deputy Commandant of Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement, and community leaders.
