The trial of the murder case involving Pamela Ruth Tumwebaze, a former student affairs leader at Uganda Christian University (UCU), has been adjourned to May 6th, 2026 as investigations into her killing continue.
The suspect, Dak Hussien Taewaiko, a casual worker commonly referred to as a shamba boy, on Wednesday reappeared before the Mukono Magistrate’s Court for further mention of charges of murder and aggravated robbery.
Proceedings resumed at around 11:30 a.m. before Grade One Magistrate Gerald Emwogu. The accused was not allowed to take plea, as the offences are capital in nature and can only be tried by the High Court.
State Attorney Josephine Nanyonga told court that investigations are still ongoing and requested more time to complete inquiries. The magistrate granted the request, adjourned the case, and ordered that the accused be remanded to Luzira Prison until the next hearing date.
Unlike previous sessions that attracted relatives and sympathisers, members of the deceased’s family were absent during Wednesday’s proceedings. Tumwebaze’s killing, which shocked the university community and residents of Mukono, occurred on the 12th of last month under disturbing circumstances. Court records indicate that the assailant allegedly broke into her room and strangled her.
He is also said to have confronted a worker at the residence while disguised in a lab coat, demanding keys before fleeing the scene. The attacker reportedly escaped with the deceased’s mobile phone and a laptop bag, raising suspicions of aggravated robbery alongside the murder charge.
The case continues to draw public interest, particularly within the UCU community, as calls for justice persist. Proceedings are expected to resume next month as investigators work to finalize evidence for eventual committal to the High Court. URN
