President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni praised the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Community Affairs, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, for her role in advancing the government’s broad-based democracy reforms.
According to the President, these reforms aimed to include women actively in various sectors, such as the military, and create political opportunities, enabling figures like Rt. Hon. Kadaga to enter Parliament.
“I congratulate people like Rebecca Kadaga who responded to our reforms; without them, our efforts would have faltered. The question was, why weren’t women rising through the ranks? Was it unwillingness or something else?” President Museveni stated.
Museveni made these remarks at the launch of “The Pathway to Greatness,” a book authored by Rt. Hon. Kadaga at Kololo Independence Grounds on Wednesday.
President Museveni also acknowledged Rt. Hon. Kadaga as a committed and resilient individual. He highlighted her active contribution to the East African Federation and her impactful work in the Kamuli and Busoga regions.
“Rebecca is committed and a fighter. I leverage such qualities in my team. I told her to fight for the East African Federation, and she has actively contributed to her region,” he explained.
Rt. Hon. Kadaga shared that the inspiration for her first book stemmed from people expressing a desire to emulate her success and she emphasized the importance of understanding her journey, noting that many only see the finished product.
“In many schools, children tell me I want to be like you but they are looking at the finished product, they don’t know my journey, some of them probably don’t know that I went to Primary or nursery school, they have seen me when I have grown up,” she said.
During the event, Ms. Anne Kabagambe, a friend of Rt. Hon. Kadaga, lauded her for unwavering dedication to women’s empowerment, describing her as hardworking, disciplined, and intellectual.
“Rebecca for those who might not know her is somebody who is hardworking, disciplined and an intellectual. She is so passionate about any activity that she does, she observes integrity in her work. She is a person who has specific values, and she has always been someone whom I can always count on due to her integrity,” She explained.
The launch was attended by the 3rd Deputy Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Rukia Nakadama, and other dignitaries.
