President Yoweri Museveni has donated Shs30 million to Rt Rev Omara Joseph, a Born Again Pentacostal Bishop in Lira District, Northern Uganda.
The money delivered by Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, the Minister of Health, was President Museveni’s contribution towards the consecration of Omara as the overseer of National Fellowship of Born again Churches in Lango Subregion.
Hundreds of Christians of Born again pentecostal churches in Lango witnessed the consecration, Omara now the 3rd Bishop that took place at the Mayor’s Garden in Lira City.
Aceng delivered the money in cash to the Bishop on August 11 August, 2023. She said the president also pledged to buy him a brand new vehicle, which he said she would personally follow it up until it is fulfilled.
The event attracted several churches that subscribe to the Born Again Pentecostal Churches in Lango, including other visitors from outside the country.
While delivering the president’s message to the congregation, Aceng stated that the President congratulated Bishop Omara as the Lango overseer of the National Fellowship of Born Again Pentecostal Churches, and also rallying him to continue encouraging believers to engage in income generating activities.
“I have been moving around preaching the gospel of wealth creation to the people, and as overseer, l hope you will promote my message. Many times, you complain that the government does not support the Pentecostal Churches, but your structures are not organised,” said Museveni in a message read by Aceng.
The President said that government is committed to supporting the Pentecostal Churches and their works of bettering the masses, both spirituality and economically.
The dignitaries who attended the event include Maj Martha Asiimwe the head of RDCs secretariat, Hon Judith Alyek Chairperson Lango Parliamentary Group, Otuke Abeja Susan the Lira District Woman MP, Mr Opio a a presidential advisor, Laurence Emmy Egole the RCC Lira City, and Sam Atul Lira City Maayor.
Others included local politicians, leaders, pastors, apostles, and the members of the general public, plus people of different denominations.
On his part, Omara advised Pentecostal Churches to register so that they are legally known by the government of Uganda.
He also asked the locals to adequately and appropriately prepare for the coming rains for the next rainy season.
