Nakaseke District Woman MP, Hon Sarah Najjuma, has directed residents in the district with farm dams to construct a fence around them in order to ensure safety of children.
Her directive followed the drowning and death of two minors, Alvin and Christine, at Wakataama village in Kito Sub County. The children died as they attempted to swim in the farm dam after collecting firewood.
“Safety of children is everyone’s responsibility and so this tragic incident should act as an eye opener for parents and all of us to guide, protect and monitor our children all the time,” Najjuma said.
“Now that children are in holidays, parents should not permit them to go for swimming in dams and swamps.”
“I also direct individuals with dams on farms fence them. This will restrict them from being easily accessed by children thus saving us from a repeat of such tragedy,” Najjuma said.
The MP also use the burial ceremony to root for food security in the district. She tasked residents to use this rainy season to plant for food crops, and also engage in governmental programs.
