It is alleged that while working as campaign agents for Naturinda, they attempted to kill Eliab Gumisiriza, a campaign agent of David Bahati,  the incumbent Ndorwa West County MP. Bahati later lost the parliamentary seat to Naturinda.

Four campaign agents of the Ndorwa West County Member of Parliament-elect, Eliab Naturinda Mporeera, were granted bail after being charged with attempted murder.

The accused are Paul Akankwasa, Gilbert Tumuranze, Jovan Rugyendo, and Junior Akampurira, all residents of Rwakanyweire Village in Bukoora Parish, Kitumba Sub-county, Kabale District.

The four have been on remand at Ndorwa Government Prison.

On Thursday evening, they were arraigned before the Kabale Chief Magistrate’s Court and charged with attempted murder, contrary to Section 204(a) of the Penal Code Act. They pleaded not guilty to the charges. According to the prosecution, the suspects allegedly committed the offence in January 2026 during the general election campaigns.

State Prosecutor Isaac Onyango informed the court that investigations into the matter are complete and that the prosecution is ready to proceed with the hearing.

Godwin Masereka of Elgon and Company Advocates, representing the accused, applied for bail on behalf of the accused. Each of the accused presented two sureties.

Kabale Chief Magistrate Derrick Byamugisha granted the suspects non-cash bail of two million shillings each. Their sureties were also bonded with non-cash bail.

Masereka welcomed the court’s decision, noting that although the charges are serious, the magistrate exercised leniency in allowing the accused temporary release.
