President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has praised the retiring Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Generals for their unwavering commitment to the vision of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and their dedicated service to the nation.

“I extend my congratulations to the retiring generals. You were young individuals in 1979 and beyond, yet you steadfastly embraced the vision of the NRM. Despite the initial challenges faced by the NRM as an emerging force, you believed in its ideals and joined its ranks,” Gen. Museveni expressed.

The President conveyed these sentiments on Friday, during a farewell ceremony held at State House-Entebbe in honor of the retiring army generals.

President Museveni assured the departing senior army officers that the NRM has remained steadfast in its support, enhancing their capabilities through various training programs, including officer cadet, platoon commander courses, staff college, senior command, and advanced academic courses at universities.

“As your Commander-In-Chief, I have continuously postponed retirements due to inadequate salaries. I established a casualty unit in Mubende for injured soldiers, ensuring they do not retire into destitution. Now, with improved packages, it is time for you to utilize these resources wisely,” President Museveni emphasized.

Hon. Jacob Oboth-Oboth, Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, expressed gratitude to the retiring generals for their sacrifices and contributions to Uganda’s progress.

“Leave with pride, knowing that Uganda and its future generations are indebted to your selfless dedication in improving our nation,” Hon. Oboth conveyed.

The Deputy Chief of Defense Forces (D/CDF), Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding, hailed the retiring officers as exemplary professionals, attributing their success to the visionary leadership of President Museveni.

“Your Excellency, your strategic leadership has led to this momentous occasion, where retirement signifies professionalism rather than escape. We celebrate our retiring officers who leave the army with dignity and honor,” Lt. Gen. Okiding remarked.
