Pakwach district authorities impounded two box-body trucks loaded with over 400 bags of charcoal in an intelligence-led operation on Sunday evening. Paul Eseru, the Pakwach Resident District Commissioner confirmed the incident, stating that the four individuals arrested during the operation along Wadilai road will be promptly arraigned in court.

He revealed that the perpetrators of the illegal charcoal trade have long evaded authorities by hiding at various landing sites along the Nile before sneaking out. The impounded trucks, currently parked at Pakwach Police Station, have registration numbers UBK 915B and UBG 755V.

By the time of filing this story, the suspects, whose names were still unavailable were in custody at Pakwach Police Station. This crackdown aligns with President Museveni’s Executive Order No.3, issued in May 2023, which bans commercial charcoal trade in Northern Uganda to combat rapid environmental degradation.
