Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday opened fire at Pastor Aloysius Bujingo of House of Prayer Ministries killing his bodyguard Richard Muhumuza.
The incident happened at around 9 pm at Bawalakata junction, Namungoona, Lubaga Division, in Kampala. Pr. Bujingo drove himself to Mulago hospital where Muhumuza was pronounced dead.
Witnesses narrated what transpired since many of them were within the vicinity of the scene. Joseph Sseku one of the residents in the area revealed that as the pastor was coming from Salt TV approaching Justine Ssendikadiwa road to join Namugoona main road the gunmen who were on a motorcycle opened fire more than 10 bullets at Bujingo’s car targeting the co-driver.
According to Sseku, Pr. Bujingo was driving the car while Muhumuza was in the co-driver’s seat.
Eyewitnesses also told URN that after the incident the gunmen fled towards the Bawalakata road, shooting in the air to scare away onlookers.
Wilson Kato, the Executive Committee member of Namungoona-Kasubi LCI said that they heard sounds similar to gunshots, but thought that they were sounds from the exhaust pipes of a Subaru car.
He however received information that somebody had been shot.
On Wednesday, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Christopher Ddamulira visited the scene and was briefed about the incident by a team of plain-clothed intelligence officers.
