The ongoing construction works and development of Terego Sports Complex in the West Nile region worth shs1.1 Billion nears completion.
The ultra modern complex which consists of a football field, a jogging track, basketball and volleyball courts, is funded by the World Bank Refugee window.

The Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) – AF, is the overall supervision institution of the project, which seeks to expand recreational facilities for both refugees and host communities.
Stephen Ajalu, a Senior Urban Development Specialist with the World Bank led a team that inspected the facility located in Leju Town Council, Terego district, as part of a seven day assessment mission of its progress.

“We are glad over the progress that is being made at the sports facility. We expected as much safety features as possible to be put in place. Including proper drainage and waste disposal systems,” Ajalu, advised the Terego district officials.
Sigfred Dratele Budra, the Supervising Engineer, told the inspecting team that the ongoing greening of the play area was on course, with the two pavilions which have a combined seating capacity of 400 nearing completion within 6 weeks.

“The time frames are realistic on our part. We should be able to complete the entire project on time before end of next year. The rains have been too frequent affecting transportation of materials to the site. But the site engineers and works are doing their best in the circumstances” Dratele, noted.
Among others, it is expected that the refugee communities in this particular district, should easily integrate with the locals and those beyond Terego on various sporting activities.

The sports complex, is expected to create opportunities for skills development of the youth, given that equally popular activities such as Basket ball and volley ball courts will be set up.
While officiating at the ground breaking for the Terego Sports Complex in mid August 2022, Obiga Kania, the Minister of State in charge of Urban Development, advised the contractor, 3K Contractors Limited, to ensure high levels of quality assurance.

“To the contractors, please, deliver this project as per the specifications. Ensure that it is completed with the stipulated time and there must be green spaces created by you all around the stadium,” Obiga, urged.
The choice of establishing a sports facility in Terego District, among others such as development of markets, resource centres and road networks has been lauded by the World Bank as “well balanced.”
