The Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate, Tom Magambo, on Friday evening hosted mid-level police commanders undergoing a four-month Intermediate Command and Staff Course at the Uganda Police Senior Command and Staff College during a courtesy visit to CID Headquarters.

After a guided tour of the facility, Magambo delivered a lecture of opportunity focusing on ideology, the historical mission of policing, and the officers’ role in guaranteeing strategic security, prosperity, and socio-economic transformation.

“Policing is not merely about enforcing the law. It is about securing the environment in which prosperity and socio-economic transformation can thrive,” Magambo told the commanders, urging them to embrace strategic leadership grounded in discipline, patriotism, and professionalism.

He emphasised that the CID’s mandate goes beyond investigating crime, noting that effective criminal investigations directly support national development by ensuring stability and public confidence in institutions.

Magambo also highlighted ongoing efforts to reduce crime and improve investigative standards within the directorate. According to the latest annual crime statistics reported by New Vision, the Uganda Police Force registered a decline in overall reported crime in 2024, a development attributed to intelligence-led operations, strengthened anti-corruption measures, and expanded community policing structures.

“We have strengthened our investigative capacity, tightened supervision, and reinforced accountability. No one is above the law,” he said, reaffirming CID’s commitment to combating corruption and organised criminal networks.

The visit formed part of the practical training component of the course, aimed at equipping mid-level commanders with strategic insight and operational competence as they prepare to assume higher responsibilities within the force.
