Luwero Police are holding a mother and her neighbor over the killing of a 14-year-old boy in a suspected ritual sacrifice. The suspect has been identified as Godfrey Lule (alias Kutesa) of Bugabo Village, Kamira Subcounty. He is accused of killing Saava Muntu, a pupil at Damascus Primary School, on March 1, 2026. Muntu was the son of neighbors Kalyango and Christine Nabuuma.
Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson, explained that on the day of the incident, Lule led the boy to a hilltop in the village known for spiritual rituals, allegedly on instructions from Muntu’s father, identified only as Kalyango Konooweka. Twiineamazima added that after sharing a meal prepared by Muntu’s mother, Nabuuma Christine (alias Mumbejja), the suspect and the victim spent the night at an altar.
“At around 6:00 a.m., the suspect attacked the victim with a panga, inflicting a deep cut to the left side of his neck, causing instant death before he attempted to flee,” Twiineamazima said. The suspect was arrested while attempting to escape, following an alarm raised by the mother. Police also arrested the mother to assist with investigations, while the father managed to flee.
Twiineamazima said Lule later told detectives that he had a dream in which Kalyango and the deceased were attempting to strangle him with a rope. “When he woke at around 6:00 a.m., Lule picked up the panga he had slept with and cut Muntu’s throat, allegedly acting on the dream,” Twiineamazima narrated.
The body was taken to Luwero Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem, and police recovered evidence, including the weapon, blood samples, and stained clothing. “Investigations into the motive, including potential ritual involvement, and the hunt for the father are ongoing,” Twiineamazima added.
Earlier, the boy had fled home and stayed with his aunt, Nakayima, citing alleged torture. It was there that Lule allegedly collected him on orders of the father and took him to the ritual site, where he met his death. Cases of suspected child ritual killings are not new in Luwero District. In 2023, eight-year-old Yasin Sserunga, a former pupil of Destiny Primary School in Luwero, was killed in a suspected ritual sacrifice.
His head was taken by unknown persons, while his torso was buried in Kasanga Village, Katuugo Town Council, Nakasongola District. That case remains unresolved, and the head was never recovered. Luwero District continues to record high levels of homicide. Police reports indicate that the district registered 86 homicide cases in 2024, ranking second in the country for the highest number of killings.
