A police constable attached to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Nabilatuk District has reportedly taken his own life. The constable, identified as Nasur Wafula, 46, was stationed at the Lorengedwat ASTU Detach located in Lokwakwa Village, Lorengedwat Sub County.
He was found dead on Thursday afternoon after using his SMG rifle to end his life under unclear circumstances. Preliminary reports indicate that PC Nasur, who hailed from Kaserem in Kapchwora District, took the drastic step over reasons yet to be determined. The incident is currently under investigation, and senior police officers have visited the scene.
Mike Longole, the Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, described the situation as tragic and expressed the police force’s commitment to determining the cause of death. “We are yet to establish why the officer made the decision to take his life instead of seeking counseling or guidance if he had been facing any personal challenges,” Longole said.
Longole further emphasized the importance of mental health support for officers, who often work under high-stress conditions. “The Uganda Police Force is deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague, PC Wafula Nasur. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time,” he added. Burial arrangements are currently underway in his ancestral home in Kaserem Village, Kapchwora District.
