Overview:

Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, explained that the two were arrested after police received information from the community members alleging that they were practicing lesbianism.

Police in Arua City, Ayivu West Division, are investigating a case of alleged lesbianism involving two young women, one of them a prominent TikTok content creator. The suspects, who are currently being held at Onduparaka Police Station, were arrested on Wednesday evening, February 18, 2026, at a rented residence along Giligili Road at Ediofe Trading Centre in Arua City.

Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, explained that the two were arrested after police received information from the community members alleging that they were practicing lesbianism.

She added that community members reported unusual noises frequently coming from the suspects’ residence at night, raising suspicions of sexual activity.

According to Angucia, police have since registered a case of alleged lesbianism contrary to Section 2 (1) of the Anti-Homosexuality Act, 2023, and commenced investigations.

Michael Baiga, Chairperson of Ediofe Trading Centre, said his office had received numerous concerns from members of the community who alleged that the two women had engaged in public displays of affection at their rented residence. “We started getting information from concerned residents that the two were behaving in a way that was not acceptable in the community. After confirming from different sources, we coordinated with security,” Baiga said.

Dickens Onzima, the LC I Vice Chairperson of Alengo Cell in Komite Ward, said local leaders mobilized residents and informed the police to intervene. “When we received the information, we contacted the relevant security authorities. Police advised that the operation be conducted carefully, and officers came at the right time to pick them,” Dickens explained.

Under the Anti-Homosexuality Act, 2023, a person convicted of the offence of homosexuality is liable to life imprisonment.
