President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who also serves as the Commander in Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), presided over the passing-out ceremony of 298 Counter Terrorism Warriors from Intake 07/23-24 and 58 Special Tactics trainees.

The officers successfully completed a rigorous nine-month training program at the School of Military Intelligence and Security in Migyera, Nakasongola District.

During his address, President Museveni praised the graduates for their resilience and determination in completing the demanding course under challenging conditions with limited resources. He emphasized the importance of resourcefulness, urging all Ugandans to make the most of what is available to achieve significant results.

Museveni highlighted the critical role of intelligence in national security and pledged to enhance the school’s infrastructure to support future training. He also reminded the graduates of the significant responsibility ahead of them, encouraging them to remain diligent in fulfilling their duties.

The Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Nyirabashitsi Sarah Mateke, who represented the Minister of Defence, thanked the President for his strategic vision, which continues to strengthen Uganda’s national defense through ongoing military training. She urged the graduates to uphold the core values of the UPDF and remain committed to their mission.

Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, Commander of the Land Forces, represented the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and expressed appreciation for the Ministry of Defence’s support in the training programs. He congratulated the graduates but cautioned them to remain disciplined as they embark on their new responsibilities.

Maj. Gen. James Birungi, Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security (CDIS) of the UPDF, advised the officers to serve with humility and integrity. He stressed that their role is not just to gather intelligence but to actively work towards eliminating threats to national security.

Col. James Muhumuza, Commandant of the UPDF School of Military Intelligence and Security, emphasized the importance of continuous learning, encouraging the graduates to stay informed and committed to serving with honor and integrity. “Keep the oath of allegiance and uphold the flag of your country,” he said.

The UPDF School of Military Intelligence and Security, established in 1987, has undergone several relocations before settling in Migyera in January 2020. Over the years, the school has trained numerous officers in various specialized skills.
