There was chaos in Watoko Village, Butingu Parish, Bumali Sub County in Namisindwa District over the weekend when the relatives of the late Justine Wachemba, decided to avenge her murder by her husband. Vincent Bwayo, who surrendered to the police, chopped off the deceased’s head on Friday accusing her of engaging in an extramarital affair with one of their neighbors.

He carried the head and dumped it at her “rival’s home before surrendering to the police. Upon receiving the news of Wachemba’s demise, the bereaved family members launched an attack on the homes of Bwayo’s relatives. They vandalized properties and destroyed produce, including bananas, tomatoes, coffee, and beans. They also set fire to houses and confiscated animals.

Julie Namara, the Namisindwa Deputy Resident District Commissioner, disclosed that police were promptly dispatched to mitigate the situation. She reassured the community that the situation has been stabilized, but as of now, no arrests have been made.

Namara urged the grieving family members to remain calm, assuring them that justice will be served as the accused person is in custody. Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson told URN they are investigating the matter and pledged to apprehend all individuals responsible for the malicious damage to face appropriate charges.
