A rainstorm, accompanied by strong winds, has wreaked havoc in Bombo Town Council, Luwero District. The storm struck on Monday afternoon at around 2 PM, lasting no more than an hour but causing significant damage.

The storm destroyed part of the offices of power distributor Umeme and damaged a section of the food supplies at Namaliga Central Market. Abdallah Ssekaaya, a market vendor, told Uganda Radio Network (URN) that more than ten stalls were completely flattened.

Bombo Town Council LC3 Chairman Osman Kassim expressed concern over the incident, attributing the destruction to unchecked environmental degradation.

He emphasized that encroachment on forests and wetlands is worsening the impact of extreme weather events on residents and their properties.

Luwero District LC5 Chairman Erasto Kibirango has been informed of the situation.

He told journalists that he is coordinating with district teams to assess the damage and plans to seek assistance from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).

This devastating storm comes after months of an unusually long dry spell, with temperatures soaring between 30 and 38 degrees Celsius.
