Overview:
The Municipal Mayor, Charles Makuru, who is serving his final term after more than 30 years of service, including the period when Rukungiri was still a town council, announced that the USMID program is expected to commence in March this year in Rukungiri Municipality.
Rukungiri Municipal Council has tabled a draft budget for the Financial Year 2026/27 of UGX 14,469,440,000, an increase of UGX 274,365,000 from last financial year’s approved budget of UGX 14,195,075,000.
The draft budget was presented before the municipal council meeting by the Secretary for Finance, Planning and Administration, Fred Besigye.
According to the draft estimates, the Finance, Planning and Audit department has been allocated UGX 274,754,550. Trade, Industry and Local Economic Development will receive UGX 10,660,000 for tourism activities and UGX 38,087,300 for private sector development.
Roads and Engineering has been allocated UGX 1,304,100,000, while Administration under Integrated Infrastructure and Public Sector Transformation will take UGX 3,817,856,550.
Statutory Bodies under Governance and Security have been allocated UGX 226,035,600, Production and Marketing UGX 588,225,750, and Natural Resources UGX 108,778,950.
The combined allocation for Health, Community Based Services, Education, and Sports stands at UGX 8,100,941,300. All these allocations bring the total draft budget to UGX 14,469,440,000.
Council was informed that the departmental allocations may change after further discussions by municipal council departmental committees and final approval during the next council sitting scheduled for April.

He noted that the municipality was selected among five districts to benefit from the program, which will focus on tarmacking municipal roads, installing street lights, and improving other essential municipal services.
