SafeBoda Uganda in partnership with Liberty insurance and Stanbic bank have launched the Plus Ride insurance package that will cover both the passenger and a rider in the event of an accident.
With this package, the insurance is covered from the moment one orders for a ride to the point of destination and a customer is guaranteed with a well trained driver to meet their expectations.
Catherine Turinakafumbe the country director of Safeboda highlighted that as a ride hailed technology business, they had to think beyond on how to improve the livelihoods of passengers and drivers hence this innovation.
“We are thrilled to announce a ground breaking initiative that perfectly complements our vision of insuring the wellbeing of our riders and passengers,” she noted.

“It’s our dream that all riders become Plus riders and all customers aspire to take a Plus ride because time has been taken to up-skill the drivers and to ensure that much as there is insurance there keen on safety and regulations on the road,” she added.
According to statistics from the Traffic Police Directorate, there have been up to 37,000 motorcycle accidents recorded since June 2023, an indication of havoc to all road users. Statistics further indicated that more than 4,000 lives were lost in 2022 due to these accidents.
In his remarks, Godwin Arinaitwe the traffic commander of Kampala Metropolitan Police, noted that in the presence of insurance, both the passenger and rider are safe and have confidence on the road and he called upon the public to embrace motor insurance.
“We as Police are ready to work with you and everybody to push the work of motorcycle industry ahead for safe and betterment of our road safety” he asserted.
Arinaitwe further hailed the academy for installing discipline in their riders pointing out that they cause minimal accidents compared to other riders with no training skills.
On his part, Sam Fredric Mwogeza the Executive head of personal and private banking at Stanbic bank Uganda, highlighted that the purpose of this innovation was to create a flexible solution that enables customers to manage their financial situation in a manner that makes them allows them make better choices.
“Plus ride insurance isn’t just a tactical situation to address a short time need, but about creating a concept that they’re solutions that are present to give Ugandans a better piece of mind and flexibility on their financial resources,” he explained.
Since June 5, the Safe Plus package has attracted about 8,000 trips and riders are required to pay a monthly subscription of Shs 6,000 which is deducted from their daily commissions.
Juuko Sadat, one of the beneficiaries of this package, hailed Safeboda for its quick processing of his medical bills when he got fractured after an accident on Mawanda road in Kampala.
“It was only a simple call to my bosses that I had gotten an accident, I was instructed to seek treatment and in a few weeks I was reimbursed with over Shs 1 million after providing receipts of all expenses,” he highlighted.
