The chief magistrate court in Katakwi has remanded the director of Onset Senior School and a teacher from Halcyon Soroti’s main campus for human trafficking. It’s alleged that on January 24, 2025, at Wera Trading Center in Amuria district, Kennedy Adungo, 36, a resident of Oderai, Western Division Soroti city, brought Sharon Aguti, 20, an S3 student at Halcyon School’s main campus, to Katakwi for sexual exploitation.

He was caught last Friday and transferred to East Kyoga Regional Police Station, where he was accused of trafficking in person. However, on January 28, 2025, he was transferred from Soroti regional police to Katakwi’s chief magistrate court for his initial appearance on the charge, but he was remanded until Monday, February 3, 2025, pending the hearing of his case by the magistrate.

Aweu William, 58, a farmer in Akisim Morungatuny Sub County, Amuria district, and father of the girl, stated that he discovered his daughter was not in Amuria and began seeking her after learning that she was in the hands of a teacher.

He was also presented in court, demanding justice for his daughter, who had been exploited by the teacher. The Resident Senior State Attorney Katakwi took no chances and guaranteed that those whose young girls’ or students’ rights had been abused were imprisoned. The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, February 3, 2025, for a hearing of his case before the magistrate.
