Seven aspirants in Katakwi district failed to be nominated to contest for Parliamentary seats in the upcoming elections. run for the position of member of parliament at both the District and constituency levels.
The Katakwi District Electoral Commission successfully nominated 24 candidates for the 2026 general election.
Those who missed were Cecilia Anyakoit, Independent Woman Member of Parliament, Frances Clare Apolot, Paul Malinga, and Charles Hammer Odeng. Others are Violet Akurut Adome, Moses Akol Ecaboi, and Jude Amodoi.
Frances Clare Apolot, who wanted to unseat the Vice President, Rtd Maj Jessica Rose Alupo, also missed being nominated. Apolot, also Alupo’s relative, wanted to contest under the Forum for Democratic Change FDC ticket. She failed to find a person to nominate her.
Stephen Alemukori, aspirant for Ngariam county, claims he failed to raise three million shillings for nomination.
Paul Malinga, an independent candidate for Toroma County, stated that his nomination was incomplete since he did not fill it out in triplicate despite paying the nomination money.
However, 24 candidates were nominated in three Katakwi constituencies, including two female candidates for the District Woman MP seat.
Angella Anuken and Independent will contest against the Vice President, Jessica Rose Alupo.
In Ngariam County, there are seven candidates, including Daniel Mulalu, Peter Ogwang, Augustine Otuko, Andrew Joseph Omiat, Michael Ochailap Akabwai, John Baptist Eidit, and Apuda Ignatius.
In Usuk County, five candidates were successfully nominated. They include Richard Ogorok, Charles Okideny, Epel Alex, Bosco Okiror, and Simon Peter Ogulo.
In the Toroma constituency, ten candidates were nominated: Andrew Joseph Koluo, independent; Solomon Ossiya Alemu, National Resistance Movement; Walter Elakas, independent; Allan Aporu, independent; Benjamin Akiso, National Platform Unity NUP; Paul Ikwap, Forum for Democratic Change FDC; Robert Ekongot, former LCV on an independent ticket; Julius Eupet, independent candidate; and Okello Stephen, independent.
